New Construction 39m MY Safira
- In 2011, I was asked by a client (previous captain) to join an owners-build team for a new construction project 'MY Safira'. The builder had filed bankruptcy, so each owner with a vessel in-build mutually took over the management of the shipyard. I was hired as onsite purser and project coordinator for the build and liaison to the shipyard. As a team we managed all trades and contractors, while working with the naval architects, designers, insurance, and council. Although quite challenging our build team of four completed the vessel and managed a well-engineered but unusual launch. The vessel was then taken to another shipyard for final completion, outfitting, trials. She was delivered to her happy owner, who enjoy two years and 30,000NM of vast cruising itineraries.
In 2014, while the owner was busy cruising, the architect from Sparkman Stephens and I attended and accepted the winning design award on behalf of the owner and build team.
