In 2011, a former captain and client extended an invitation for me to join the construction team appointed by the owner for the 39-meter expedition yacht, Safira.
The builder had unfortunately declared bankruptcy, necessitating the involvement of each vessel owner in the management of both the shipyard and their respective projects. In my capacity as the build coordinator, I undertook the roles of on-site purser and primary liaison with the designated shipyard manager. The financial,insurance, and legal complexities presented significant challenges. Our team of four proficiently propelled the construction process forward, culminating in an unconventional yet masterfully designed launch by mid-2012. Subsequently, the yacht was transferred to another shipyard for its final completion, outfitting, and trials. In early 2013, the owner joyously embarked on the yacht and enjoyed several years of extensive cruising.
In 2014, an architect from Sparkman & Stephens attended the prestigious Showboats International Design Award ceremony to receive the accolade on behalf of the owner and the build team.
